Drugs. Porn. STD's. Foxes. And all the empty spaces in between. Phantasm is a comedy about new perspectives. Frankie and Adam are a girl and a boy who don't want to be here. They're going to smoke their way into a somewhere new. Even if it is just in their minds. Frankie likes the idea of Cork. Adam likes the idea of Spain. As long as it's not here, they don't mind. This is the beginning of their travels.

Phantasm has a bit of romance, a bit of comedy and a 50 bag of AK-47. Most of all, it's a snapshot of people in a situation we can empathise with: being on the verge of moving forward while threatening to fall backwards.

Devious Theatre have been making alternative theatre for young audiences since 2006. We don't repeat ourselves much. We last appeared at Solstice with Smitten in 2011. We are very happy to return. John Kennedy previously wrote Shifting which performed as part of Devious Theatre's In the Future When All's Well residency in April 2011. It was a huge success. Phantasm was selected as part of Fishamble's Young People's Tiny Plays For Ireland. It was performed as a rehearsed reading on March 24th in Project Arts Centre with Don Wycherely and Kate Stanley Brennan as Adam and Frankie. This is its debut performance.

The Devious Theatre Company are supported by Kilkenny Arts Office This Is Not An Empty Space Initiative.

Phantasm debuted at Solstice as part of the 2012 Cork Midsummer Festival and also performed as part of the 2012 Abhainn Ri Festival (August 2012)

Cleere's Theatre

Cleere's Theatre was our first home for theatre, presenting Heart Shaped Vinyl there in 2006 and it played home to bash in 2011 so it gives us great pleasure to bring a show like Phantasm to Cleere's. You'll find them on 28 Parliament Street, Kilkenny, with full venue details on Cleeres.com.
